Manner adverbs adalah kata keterangan tentang bagaimana sesuatu terjadi.

1. Accidentally (Secara tidak sengaja)

Nathan: “Hi Kate, why are you such in a hurry?” (Hai Kate, kok kamu buru-buru sih?)

Katharina: “Oh, hi Nate!  I accidentally took the wrong paper, so I have to go back to my apartment to get the right one.” (Oh hai Nate! Aku tak sengaja membawa makalah yang salah, jadi aku harus pulang dulu ke apartemen untuk mengambil makalah yang benar.)

Nathan: “Oh okay, be careful on the way home!” (Oh baiklah kalau begitu, hati-hati di jalan ya!)

2. Carefully (Secara hati-hati)

“Tracey opened the package carefully, since she didn’t want to ruin the packaging box.” (Tracey membuka paket itu dengan hati-hati, karena ia tak ingin merusak dus kemasannya.)

3. Chronologically (Secara kronologis, secara runut, secara berurutan)

Police officer: “Ma’am, did you really see when the accident happened?”  (Bu, anda melihat betul saat kecelakaan itu terjadi?)

Marielle: “Yes, I did.”  (Iya.)

Police Officer: “Could you tell us what happened chronologically?” (Boleh diceritakan secara kronologis kejadiannya?)

Marielle: “Of course. I was waiting for a bus at the shelter, when a car suddenly ran over an old lady.” (Tentu saja. Jadi saya tadi sedang menunggu bus di halte bus, ketika tiba-tiba ada sebuah mobil yang menabrak seorang nenek.)

Police Officer: “Did you see the license plate number?” (Ibu melihat nomor plat mobilnya tidak?)

Marielle: “Uhm..no.  But I remember it was black convertible BMW.” (Ehm…tidak sih. Tapi saya ingat mobilnya itu BMW convertible berwarna hitam.)

Police Officer: “What time did it happen?” (Jam berapa kejadiannya berlangsung?)

Marielle: “Around 9 a.m.” (Sekitar jam 9 pagi.)

Police Officer: “Okay then…thank you for your time, Ma’am.” (Baik kalau begitu…terima kasih atas waktunya, Bu.)

4. Horrible (Sangat buruk, buruk sekali, mengerikan)

Sylvia: “So, did you enjoy the party last night?” (Bagaimana, apakah kamu menikmati pesta semalam?)

Charles: “Hmm…not really…”  (Hmm…tidak juga sih…)

Sylvia: “Why? What happened?” (Kenapa?  Memangnya ada apa?)

Charles: “The party itself was great, but the food tasted horrible.” (Pestanya sendiri sih menyenangkan, tapi makanannya betul-betul sangat tidak enak.)

5. Well (Dengan baik)

Belinda: “Penny, do you know where I could learn Spanish? I really want to speak Spanish well.” (Penny, kamu tahu tidak dimana aku bisa belajar bahasa Spanyol?  Aku ingin sekali bisa berbahasa Spanyol dengan baik.)

Penelope: “Hmm… I’m not sure. But hey, why don’t you try with language apps?  It’s easier and definitely so much cheaper.” (Hmm….dimana ya… Eh, coba saja menggunakan aplikasi bahasa? Caranya mudah dan jauh lebih murah.)

Belinda: “Yeah, I guess you’re right. I’ll try that first.” (Iya betul juga ya.  Nanti aku coba deh.)

6. Incredibly (Secara luar biasa)

“Veronica’s parents are incredibly proud of their daughter for winning the spelling bee competition.” (Orangtua Veronica merasa sangat bangga terhadap putrinya karena memenangkan kompetisi mengeja.)

7. Maturely (Secara dewasa)

Contoh Penggunaan:

“I’m glad that they can settle their differences maturely, and found a win-win solution for that matter.” (Aku senang karena mereka bisa menyelesaikan perbedaan mereka secara dewasa, dan menemukan solusi yang saling menguntungkan untuk masalah itu.)

8. Unwaveringly (Secara tak tergoyahkan)

“Felicity sticks to her decision to hand in the resignation letter unwaveringly, although most of her colleagues don’t agree.” (Felicity tetap tak tergoyahkan dalam keputusannya untuk menyerahkan surat pengunduran diri, meskipun kebanyakan rekan kerjanya tak setuju.)

9. Equally (Secara merata, secara sama)

“Teachers should treat all their students equally.” (Guru harus bisa memperlakukan semua muridnya secara sama.)

10. Truthfully (Sesungguhnya, secara jujur, sejujurnya)

“Samantha finally told us what really happened with her family truthfully. To be honest, I didn’t know that her situation was that bad.” (Samantha akhirnya menceritakan secara jujur pada kami apa yang yang sebenarnya terjadi pada keluarganya. Sejujurnya, aku tak tahu bahwa situasinya seburuk itu.)

11. Well-behaved (Berperilaku baik)

Polly: “Edwina, I can’t believe Annie is only 4 years old. She must be the most well-behaved kid I’ve ever met.” (Edwina, rasanya aku tak percaya kalau Annie baru berusia 4 tahun. Dia pastilah benar-benar anak yang paling berkelakuan baik yang pernah aku temui.)

Edwina: “That’s very kind of you to say that. Thank you Polly.” (Kamu baik sekali mengatakan itu.  Terima kasih ya Polly.)

12. Briefly (Secara singkat)

Dustin:“So, do you understand your duty for today?” (Bagaimana, kamu sudah mengerti tentang tugasmu hari ini?)

Evan: “Yes, Sir.  Mrs. Thomson already explained it briefly.” (Sudah Pak. Tadi Bu Thomson sudah menjelaskannya secara singkat.)

13. Cleverly (Secara cerdas)

“Wow, no wonder Patricia is the best student in our class.  She could deliver her argument during debate session cleverly.” (Wah, tak heran yah Patricia jadi siswa terbaik di kelas kita. Dia mampu menyampaikan argumennya dalam sesi debat secara cerdas.)

14. Seriously ( Secara serius)

Hannah: “Candace, will you accompany me to the electronic store? I think I seriously consider of buying new Home Theatre set.” (Candace, kamu mau tidak menemaniku ke toko barang elektronik? Sepertinya aku serius mempertimbangkan untuk membeli set Home Theatre baru.)

Candace: “Wow, really? That’s so cool! Sure, I’ll go with you.” (Wah benarkah?  Keren sekali! Tentu saja, nanti aku temani.)

15. Consistently (Secara konsisten)

“I think Gwen could be the employee of the month. She always manage to maintain her good work consistently.” (Menurutku Gwen bisa jadi pegawai teladan bulan ini. Dia selalu berhasil mempertahankan kerja bagusnya secara konsisten.)
