Percakapan 1
Lawyer: Welcome, Mr. Smith. Thank you for coming in to see me today. (Selamat datang, Pak Smith.
Client: Thank you. (Terima kasih)
Lawyer: So why don’t you tell me what brings you today? (Jadi, ceritakan mengapa Anda di sini?)
Client: Well, I worked for ABC Company. I was just fired, and I think they fired me wrong. I’m here to try to see if I can get my job back or get some sort of severance pay or something.
Lawyer: Okay. How much money were you making when you were working with the company? (Oke.
Client: My salary was $62,000 a year plus health insurance. I worked there for 13 years now. I was facilities manager. I’ve done really well. My performance reviews are very good. (Gaji saya $62,000 satu tahun ditambah asuransi kesehatan. Saya bekerja di sana sudah 13 tahun. Saya adalah manajer fasilitas. Saya bekerja dengan baik. Ulasan peforma kerja saya sangat bagus)
Lawyer: Okay, so why do you think that they fired you? (Oke, jadi menurut Anda mengapa Anda dipecat?)
Client: My boss told me some of the things I was doing in my private time reflected badly on the company. They asked me to stop doing them, but I refused. Hence, they fired me. Alhasil saya dipecat)
Lawyer: What were those things? (Apakah hal-hal itu?)
Client: I’m a feminist. I write blog about feminist activism, and I sometimes do rallies and demonstrations. (Saya seorang feminis. Saya menulis blog tentang aktivitas feminis, dan terkadang saya melakukan unjuk rasa dan demo)
Lawyer: How long have you been an activist? (Sudah berapa lama Anda menjadi seorang aktivis?)
Client: I’ve been an activist for about 10 years, but no one knew except my wife about it until last June.
Lawyer: So do you think that it’s only recently that your company knew that? (Jadi menurut Anda baru akhir-akhir ini perusahaan Anda mengetahuinya?)
Client: Yeah. (Ya)
Lawyer: Okay. Did your boss specifically say that because of those activities that you were fired? (Oke.
Client: He didn’t say that exactly, but that’s certainly the impression I got.
Lawyer : Did you do those activities while you’re at work? (Apakah Anda melakukan kegiatan tersebut ketika bekerja?)
Client: Absolutely not. All the blog writing and demonstrations happened on my own private time and were done outside the office.
Lawyer: I see. You said at the beginning that you wanted to get your job back or get severance pay, is that right? (Saya paham.
Client: Ultimately, I would like to continue work there because I enjoyed the job I had. If that’s not possible, I think I should get some sort of severance.
Lawyer: All right. Thank you, I’ll study this first and I’ll call you back again later. (Baiklah. Terima kasih, saya akan mempelajarinya terlebih dahulu. Saya akan menghubungi Anda kembali nanti)
Client: Thank you. (Terima kasih)
Percakapan 2
Lawyer: Good afternoon, ma’am. Please have a seat. How can I help you? (Selamat siang, bu. Silakan duduk. Ada yang bisa saya bantu?)
Client: Thank you. I was in a car accident, and my doctor advised me to call a lawyer, so I’m here. (Terima kasih.
Lawyer: Okay. Could you describe the accident for me? (Oke. Bisa jelaskan kecelakannya?)
Client: Sure. I was driving. Right in the intersection of Apple and Grape Street, I was suddenly hit on my driver’s side. (Tentu saja. Saya menyetir.
Lawyer: Okay. How fast were you going? (Oke. Berapa kecepatan Anda?)
Client: Around 35 miles per hour. (Sekitar 35 mil per jam)
Lawyer: How fast was the other car going? (Berapa kecepatan mobil yang menabrak?)
Client: Maybe 40 miles per hour. (Mungkin 40 mil per jam)
Lawyer: I see. Were there any officers on the scene? (Oke. Apakah ada polisi di TKP?)
Client: Yeah, he took both of my and the other driver’s statements. The other driver said I hit him, and he’d sue me. But I swear I didn’t hit him. It was him who hit me.
Lawyer: Ah I see. Were there any eyewitnesses? (Ah begitu. Apakah ada saksi mata?)
Client: Yeah there were two people. (Ya, ada dua orang)
Lawyer: Great. Well, I can help you for sure. I’m going to give you a copy of this file. I want you to take it home, read it over and bring it back to our next appointment. (Bagus.
Client: Okay. Thanks. (Oke. Terima kasih)
