Job Interview: Percakapan dalam Bahasa Inggris di Telepon Menentukan Jadwal Interview Kerja

On the phone, discuss what to do, where to go and make arrangements to meet.

Mr. Foucault: Good morning. Am I speaking with Ms. Anne?

Anne: Good morning. This is Anne speaking.

Mr. Foucault: I am Michel Foucault from Foucault Law Firm.

Anne: Yes sir, How can I help you?

Mr. Foucault: I have received and reviewed your application; and I am glad to congratulate you now that you are shortlisted in our law firm.

Anne: What a good news. What should I probably do?

Mr. Foucault: I need to see you in person, just to making sure that you are eligible to join my law firm. We are going to have a small conversation.

Anne : It would be nice. When will it be?

Mr. Foucault: How about tomorrow afternoon?

Anne : I would love to, but I already had an appointment with my mother to check her up at hospital. How about the day after tomorrow afternoon?.

Mr. Foucault: Let me check my schedule.. I didn’t see anything on the day so it would be okay.

Anne: Alright. Where will it be? Should I meet you at your office?

Mr.Foucault: No.You shouldn’t. Do you know Garuda Restaurant at Kebon sereh street?

Anne: Yes I do. It’s a nice restaurant though. Should I prepare something?

Mr. Foucault: I need you to bring your latest CV with achievements, education and qualifications, employment history; make sure that you highlighted tasks and responsibilities that show your skills and strength.

Anne: Noted sir. Is there anything else I should take?

Mr. Foucault: Ah. One thing, make sure that you are well groomed.

Anne: Absolutely. what time will it be at?

Mr.Foucault:: 13.00 PM. Don’t be late.

Anne: Of course. Let me sum it up. Garuda Restaurant on kebon sereh street at 10.00 PM.

Mr. Foucault: Well. I’m counting on you. Send my regard to your mother and Have a nice day.

Anne: Have a nice day sir.

Percakapan diatas adalah contoh bagaimana mengatur waktu, apa saja yang akan dilakukan dan tempat pertemuan lewat telephone. Pada materi kali ini kalian akan belajar bagaimana membangun sebuah percakapan yang baik dengan ekspresi dan ungkapan-ungkapan yang lazim digunakan ketika mengatur janji lewat telepon.

Kita akan mempelajari dengan membagi percakapan diatas menjadi lima topik, yaitu:

  1. Salam (Greeting) ala percakapan telepon.
  2. Menentukan apa yang akan dilakukan.
  3. Menentukan waktu pertemuan.
  4. Menentukan tempat pertemuan.

1. Salam (Greeting)

Mr. Foucault: Good morning. Am I speaking with Ms. Anne?

Anne: Good morning. This is Anne speaking.

Diatas adalah contoh salam dalam percakapan telepon. Ada beberapa ekspresi lain yang dapat digunakan seperti:

Salam Respon
Can/ may I speak to…(name) please??* Yes, this is (name) speaking.*
Can/may I talk to..(name) Please?* This is (name) speaking.*
Am I speaking/ talking with?* Yes you can/may. It’s me.**
Is this (name) speaking?* Yes, it’s (name).*
Is it (name)?** Yes, it’s me.**
Are you (name)?** Yes, you are speaking with (name)*

*Ekspresi formal.

*Ekspresi informal.

Sebelum menggunakan salam diatas ada baiknya jika kalian terlebih dulu mengatakan good morning, afternoon, etc untuk menambah kesan formal pada percakapan. Semakin formal bahasa yang dipakai semakin menunjukan profesionalitas. Pakailah respon formal jika salam yang diucapkan formal.

Setelah itu berikan ucapan selamat sebagai awalan akan adanya interview. Berikut adalah beberapa ekspresi yang dapat dipakai.

  • I am glad to congratulate you now that you are shortlisted.
  • I would like to inform you that you are now a candidate in our company.
  • It’s such a chance to tell you that you are eligible for an interview.
  • I finally have decided that you are allowed to proceed to an interview.

2. Menentukan apa yang akan dilakukan (what to do)

Mr. Foucault: I need to see you in person, just to making sure that you are eligible to join my law firm. We are going to have a small conversation.

Karena percakapan diatas adalah membuat janji interview, lazimnya kalian akan memberitahukan akan adanya interview dan keperluan apa saja untuk interview.

Berikut adalah ekspresi dan ungkapan yang dapat dipakai:

  • I would like to invite you for an interview.
  • I want you to meet me for an interview.
  • Do you have time for an interview?

Untuk memberitahukan apa saja keperluan yang dibawa dan disyaratkan, kalian juga dapat menggunakan ekspresi:

  • Is it possible for you to take…. with you?
  • May I ask for your…
  • Can you bring…
  • I suggest you to bring/take..

Dalam CV biasanya akan diminta hal seperti:

  • (Certificate)
  • Surat rekomendasi (Letter of recommendation)
  • Penghargaan dan pencapaian (Achievements)
  • Pengalaman kerja. (Employment history)

3. Menentukan waktu pertemuan

Anne:When will it be?

Mr. Foucault: How about tomorrow afternoon?

Untuk menanyakan kapan, kalian bisa mengggunakan ekspresi lainnya seperti:

Do you have any free time this week/month? I’m free on..(day)
Do you have any appointment on.. (date) I don’t have any appointment at that date.
What time will it be? It will be at 13.00 PM
Is it possible for you to have an interview on (date), (day) at (time)? I don’t see any impossibility on that day.

4. Menentukan tempat pertemuan.

Mr.Foucault: Do you know Garuda Restaurant at Kebon sereh street?

Anne: Yes I do. It’s a nice restaurant though.

Untuk menanyakan tempat kalian bisa menggunakan ekspresi dibawah ini:

  • How about… (place)?
  • Do you mind if we meet at..(place)?
  • Is it okay if we meet at the first floor in (place)?
  • Is it possible if I ask you to meet me at..(place)?
  • What do you think about (place)?
