The Mouse Deer & Crocodile Fable

The story of Kancil and Crocodile is about a mouse deer named Kancil who was very hungry. He searched for food everywhere but couldn’t find any.

He decided to go to the river to drink some water and saw a crocodile sleeping. He was very careful not to wake the crocodile up while he was drinking water.

But while he was drinking, he saw a garden of delicious cucumbers on the other side of the river.

Kancil wanted to go to the garden and eat the cucumbers but he knew that if he tried to swim across the river, the crocodiles would eat him.

He thought for a long time about how to get across the river without getting eaten.

He finally came up with an idea, he would trick the crocodiles by offering them fresh meat, so that they would help him cross the river by using them as a bridge.

====
The story continues with Kancil trying to wake up the crocodile. He tried to wake him up slowly at first, but the crocodile wouldn’t wake up.

So, Kancil shouted loudly to wake him up. The crocodile was very angry because someone woke him up from his nap.

The crocodile asked Kancil why he was so brave to wake him up. Kancil confidently told the crocodile that he would give him and all the other crocodiles in the river fresh meat to eat. The crocodile was very happy because he hadn’t found any food all day.

The crocodile then called all the other crocodiles in the river. Kancil was secretly laughing because he had tricked the crocodile so easily.

Some of the crocodiles were excited because they hadn’t found much food, but others were suspicious because Kancil was known for being tricky.

But with a little convincing, all the crocodiles believed Kancil and were excited for the fresh meat.

====

Kancil had a plan to estimate how many pieces of fresh meat he would distribute to them.

One of the crocodiles asked Kancil how he would know how many crocodiles there were in the river, so that he could make sure that everyone would get some fresh meat.

Kancil was very pleased with himself because all the crocodiles believed in him.

Kancil came up with a plan and told all the crocodiles to line up along the river.

They formed a bridge to the mainland across from where Kancil was standing. Once they were lined up, Kancil explained that he would jump over all the crocodiles while counting them.

This way, he would know how many crocodiles there were and make sure that each one would get some fresh meat.

Just as Kancil was about to jump, one of the crocodiles said, “Why don’t you just have me count? You don’t have to jump and make it hard for yourself.” Kancil was surprised by the idea and tried to act calm and natural.

The crocodile started counting, but he couldn’t remember the numbers and stopped at the count of three.

Finally, the crocodiles ordered Kancil to jump over them. Kancil jumped on the heads of the crocodiles while counting them. When he reached the end of the line, Kancil cheered and laughed happily.

He said that the fresh meat was just a trick and that he never had any to begin with.

The crocodiles were very disappointed, but one of them had a plan to catch Kancil the next time.

====

After tricking the crocodiles, Kancil, ate as many cucumbers as he wanted from the farmer’s garden.

The crocodiles saw him eating and said, “Eat as much as you want, so there will be enough meat for all of us.” But Kancil didn’t pay attention to them because he knew they were planning something.

As he ate, Kancil thought about how he could cross the river again. Then, a sparrow appeared and Kancil asked him to talk quietly. The crocodiles tried to listen in but they couldn’t hear because Kancil and the sparrow were too far away.

While they talked, Kancil came up with a new plan to trick the crocodiles. He told the sparrow that if he asked, the sparrow should nod.

Then Kancil walked closer to the edge of the river and pretended not to be afraid. He said he heard from a bird that King Solomon was throwing a party and that he had an invitation.

The sparrow nodded and the crocodiles believed him, letting him jump over them.

But when Kancil reached the other side of the river, the sparrow said the party had actually been held a week ago.

The crocodiles had been tricked again.

====

The crocodiles were mad that the mouse deer, Kancil, tricked them twice before. They had a meeting to think of a new plan to catch him. They decided to trick him again by saying there was an apple orchard on the other side of the river.

Kancil saw the crocodiles talking and knew something was up. One crocodile even asked him to come closer to the river and said they would help him cross to the apple orchard. But Kancil was smart and knew it was a trap. He said he was too full to eat more apples.

The crocodiles were upset but didn’t give up. They had another plan. The next day, Kancil saw no crocodiles in the river and felt safe. He sat on a rock near the river and thought the crocodiles were still asleep.

====

Kancil, the mouse deer, was feeling happy and safe as he sat on a rock near the river’s edge. He was enjoying the cool morning air and drinking the clear river water. Little did he know, the crocodiles had a plan up their sleeves. They had tricked him before, but this time they were determined to catch him for sure.

The crocodiles had made a plan to lure Kancil to cross the river by pretending there was an apple orchard on the other side. They thought that if they could get Kancil to come closer to the river, they could jump out and catch him. To make their plan work, the crocodiles decided to hide and not appear in the morning, in hopes that Kancil would be lured closer to the river.

As Kancil sat on the rock, he noticed that the crocodiles were not around. He thought that it was a rare opportunity and decided to sit on a rock near the river’s edge. Without any suspicion, Kancil jumped onto the rock and thought that it was still too early for the crocodiles to wake up.

However, the crocodiles had not forgotten about their plan. They were watching from a distance and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Suddenly, one of the crocodiles appeared between the rocks and the riverbank. Kancil was surprised and panicked at the unexpected appearance of the crocodile.

The crocodile tried to convince Kancil that he would not eat him because he had already eaten a lot of fish the night before. But Kancil knew better. He knew that the crocodiles had tricked him before and he was not going to fall for it again.

Kancil told the crocodile that he knew their plan and he was willing to be eaten if that was what the crocodile wanted. But he also had a plan of his own. He told the crocodile that if it really wanted to eat him, it would have to open its mouth wide.

When the crocodile opened its mouth, Kancil jumped on its head and walked as far as he could to the river’s edge. He then quickly ran away and escaped from the crocodiles once again.

====

=====

====

====

====
